cancer risk

Let me quote from Sten Stovall’s article, “Cancer Risk Increases With Height,” in the July 21, 2011 issue of The Wall Street Journal:

“Taller people face higher risks of getting cancer, according to research published Wednesday, suggesting increases in height over the past century might help explain changes in incidence of the disease.

Previous studies have shown a link between height and cancer risk, but the latest research, published in the U.K. medical journal Lancet, extend the findings to more cancers and for women with differing lifestyles and economic backgrounds.

Overall, the latest study found that risk of cancer in women rises by about 16% for every four-inch increase in height. It isn’t clear how height is linked to cancer risk…”

I find this totally hilarious. I hate to be negative about hard-working researchers looking for causes and cures for cancer, but will we next be reading about people with crooked toes, or mismatched ears, or freckles being more susceptible to cancer?
