hard to forget

I received an email from our minister this morning, telling the parish that a long-time member died yesterday, peacefully in her sleep. I remember Barbara fondly because she, 17 years ago in my time of trial, made dinner for my family while I was having chemotherapy. (There were many nights when I couldn’t cook or even come downstairs for dinner. I needed to rest.)

I will never forget this dinner because I recognized the menu from my childhood. But my children, then 11 and 14, were used to different fare and they were amazed — jello salad with mini-marshmallows! We all loved the dinner and were touched that someone we barely knew from church had driven so far to bring us a hot meal and show us love and support.

I hope there are others in the world that I have touched in a positive and memorable way.
