bon ami

We can all use a good friend in the home. What friend? A cleaning product that works well; has no perfume, chlorine, or dye; is inexpensive; and now is easier to find in the store with its sophisticated, new packaging.

The powdered cleanser from Bon Ami is the same simple, white powder your mother used but the new packaging looks even better in our contemporary kitchens. Look for a bright yellow and red cylinder with the little chick, just hatched, that “hasn’t scratched yet.”

The biodegradable, hypo-allergenic  powder, made from minerals not chemicals, is great for porcelain, stainless steel, Pyrex bakeware, and more. (Not for glass, and test any shiny surfaces in a discreet location.)  I love this cleanser on Pyrex dishes, Corning bakeware, kitchen and bathroom sinks, outdoor furniture (plastic strapping). A little goes a long way.

Bon Ami also makes a dish soap of natural (truly natural, not herb scented and chemically “natural”) ingredients that works! (For sink washing, not dishwasher.) You can use it for other household jobs.

My mother used the powered cleanser and I have purchased it for many years at large supermarkets. I recently paid $3.50 for the dish soap and $1-plus a little for the powdered cleanser, great alternatives to the pricey, upscale products in Whole Foods and other “green” stores.

We read in the popular press that fragrances can be toxic. Bon Ami offers a gentle, effective alternative. Here’s a great gift for yourself or someone you know who wants to get well and stay well.
