brick in the face

I attended a panel discussion this week at our local library. The presenters were five artists who have painted scenes of our town and are among the more than 22 artists whose works are owned by the historical society.

One told his story of working in graphic art and successfully using technology to assist business clients. Then, he said, his mother had a stroke, and, “It was a brick in the face.”

“I realized time was finite and if I were ever going to do what I really wanted, I had to do it now.”

He gave up his corporate job and opened his own studio to do fine art and to serve clients. He has been successful and he loves what he does. He came to this at a mature time in his life.

A dear friend leaned over to me and said, “You know about a brick in the face, having had cancer. You should blog about that.”

So here you are! Thanks for the inspiration.
