beauty queen

Alida D’Angona won the Miss Massachusetts title this fall.  She’s a scientist at Genzyme in Framingham, Mass. where her work involves finding treatments for rare genetic disorders.

“I want a cure for cancer,” she said. “Of course, that’s a lofty goal, because there are so many cancers to cure.”

I was happy to read about this 24-year-old Renaissance woman who loves science, works as a DJ, rides horses, speaks Mandarin, and fundraises for cancer research. (Her uncle has brain cancer.)

“I don’t think that many people think you can be involved in science and love fashion, and the glitz and glamour of a pageant,” she said.

The quotes are from a December 1, 2010 article in The Boston Herald.
