positive confrontation

Several years ago I attended a Catch the Spirit conference on health hosted by Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts with my cousin Pam. I remain on the mailing list for their Spirit of Women program, and I was interested to see that one of the events offered this fall is “The Power of Positive Confrontation.”

The speaker is Barbara Pachter, author of a book by that name and subtitled, The Skills You Need to Know to Handle Conflicts at Work, at Home and in Life.

According to her bio, Pachter has 25 years experience in business, including being the first woman photographer for one of the country’s largest newspapers and delivering the first-ever seminar for women in Kuwait. “Photography taught Pachter how to “see” and she has used that skill in business to help men and women present themselves more professionally in today’s workplace,” the bio says.

I missed the seminar, as it happened to take place on my birthday, but the book intrigues me. Imagine understanding our confrontational styles and learning practical steps to dealing with difficult situations! Surely that would have a positive impact on health, and apparently someone at Baystate Medical Center thinks so, too.
